From the Executive Director: Jacob’s Story

Last month, Jacob called us carrying more than a broken hand.

He was frustrated, discouraged, and embarrassed. His specialist appointment had been canceled because he couldn't afford the large copay. He was uninsured, and he felt like he'd run out of options.

Someone told him about Katallasso, and when he first reached out, he was still angry. Not at us, but at a system that had left him feeling invisible. When he came in, our patient access team sat beside him, literally, because he couldn't write with his injured hand. She listened and treated him with dignity. He shared with her that he was at the lowest point of his life.

The very next day, he saw an orthopedic specialist here at the clinic. He qualified for full financial assistance coverage, which meant surgery at no cost through one of our community partners. We also began a full health workup, and when he shared personal struggles, we connected him with counseling, too. He left this first appointment visibly relieved.
